Privacy Policy

We don’t want to bore you with a lot of legal terms but we do want you to know that your privacy matters to us. Privacy is all about choice. You decide what you want to share and how it will be used. Our commitment to you is to be transparent with you about how we collect, use, store and safeguard the personal information you provide us and not to be creepy at all!

This Policy applies to personal information that we collect, use or disclose when you use the Graduate Network website at and its related services. That is who we mean when we say “we”, “us” or “our” in this Policy.

What is personal information, you ask? Personal information is any information about an identifiable individual, other than the name, title or business address (including business email address) or business telephone or fax numbers of an employee of an organization. Personal information does not include de-identified or aggregated information that cannot reasonably be associated with a specific individual.


Let’s start with some choices you have:

We offer certain choices to you as you interact with our services. For example, you can choose to receive our newsletter, whether to have job alerts sent to you, or whether to allow your profile to be shared with a recruiter. We may also offer you the choice to receive information about related third-party services that might be of interest to you.

You can also choose whether to include certain information in your profile. We only require you to provide the information that is necessary for us to help you find internships and graduate jobs. The rest is up to you.

The types of personal information we collect

We collect your personal information in order to create your job candidate profile with us, including certain mandatory fields such as name, university, educational status, your university program/major/minor and your email. Some fields are optional, such as phone number and your GPA.

If you choose to expressly provide it to us, we may also collect other information to add to your profile or your job tracker. For example, you may choose to tell us what jobs you have applied to and what jobs you are interested in hearing more about.

There are some other types of information we may collect but only for the Purposes we set out below.

Our “Purposes” for collecting your personal information

We collect your personal information for the following Purposes:

1. To set up and maintain a responsible commercial relationship with you. In other words to provide our service on an ongoing basis.

For example, we need your personal information to set up your account and to allow you to maintain your job tracker. We also need it to set up job alerts for you.

2. To learn more about your interests and preferences.

For example, we may collect or infer information about you or your preferences for particular jobs or aspects of our service or about your lifestyle and general interests from information you provide us about yourself when you tell us your preferences, or when your usage activities indicate what your preferences are, or we may collect such information from other sources authorized to disclose it. We may use this information to offer other features of our services to you.

3. To develop, enhance, market or provide our services.

For example, we might look at how you use our website and services or from time to time to help make our website or our service better.

4. To run and grow our business.

For example, we collect information about visits to our website and how users interact with it so we can optimize it and our services.

5. For legal compliance reasons.

If any law requires us to collect or use your personal information for any purpose, of course we will comply with it.

Sharing your personal information

This is probably what you are most interested in, so let’s get to it. There are really 2 key things you need to know on this topic:

1. We don’t disclose your personal information to third parties unless we have your express consent or are required to do so by law. Again, if a law requires us to share information, we will comply.

For example, we ask for you to expressly permit us to share your profile with recruiters or companies interested in recruiting candidates. If you don’t provide your consent, we don’t share your profile.

2. We may share your personal information with our service providers to help us serve you better. Of course, we only share what we need to for them to provide the service and we require them to use the information we provide only for that purpose.

For example, we may share information with a third party under contract to perform services to assist us in serving you, such as a survey company or email marketing firm.

Where does your personal information go?

Personal information we collect may be stored and processed outside Canada. In particular, your personal information may be stored in the cloud, which usually includes transfers of data outside of Canada. It is protected with appropriate safeguards but we need to let you know that when it is outside Canada it may be available to foreign government agencies under applicable law.

How we safeguard your personal information

We take this stuff seriously. While we can’t guarantee that we can protect you against wily cyber criminals, we protect your personal information with appropriate security safeguards. Our safeguards include administrative, physical and technical security controls.

Consent matters

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume we have your consent for us to collect, use and disclose your personal information for all the Purposes outlined above.

You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. You may contact us for more information regarding the implications of withdrawing consent.

What are some other important things about how we handle your personal information?

· We work hard to keep your personal information as accurate and up-to-date as is reasonably necessary for the Purposes we set out above. Notably, we rely on you to keep your profile up to date.

· We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the Purposes we have identified to you in this Privacy Policy, or as required by law.

· You may delete your own profile at any time.

· We use cookies in a limited manner, and only for the Purposes listed above.

· We might de-identify the personal information (make it so it can’t be tracked back to you) and/or aggregate it so that we can see patterns and form insights that might be useful to you, to our partners or to us to help us improve our products and services.

· Privacy legislation generally sets out certain circumstances under which organizations may collect, use or disclose personal information without consent. Examples include emergency circumstances or the investigation of a contravention of laws. Other than under such specified circumstances, we will not collect, use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than those identified in this Privacy Policy, or our Service Terms, except with your consent.

Access to your personal information

Upon request, we will provide you with access to the personal information we have about you. You may also challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.
