Overview

Energy & Infrastructure is one of Canada’s biggest exports making it a very important industry. The goal of the energy & infrastructure industry is to maintain a flexible and secure network of electric power transmission and distribution lines as well as oil and natural gas pipelines. There are a lot of different roles in this industry that revolve around maintaining existing practices and helping create/innovate new methods of energy creation such as renewables.

If you are involved on the maintenance side of this industry, you will be responsible for gathering and analyzing blueprints, reports and data, and designing and organizing the implementation of facility expansion and quality controls. 

Another large aspect of the energy & infrastructure industry is exploration. As a petroleum engineer, you would work as part of a team of specialists aiming to locate natural reservoirs of petroleum deposits and engineer the most efficient ways of extracting it. 

There has been a recent shift in the energy & infrastructure towards renewable energy. This is part of the world’s shift to creating a sustainable way of life. Ambitious projects require ambitious individuals. There are a lot of roles in the branch of energy such as project management, engineering and environmental analyst.

Work Life and Education

Typically to get into this line of work, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any form of Engineering, Geology, Environmental sciences or related fields.

Salary

Energy Analyst: $50,000-$60,000

Energy Engineer: $60,000-$70,000
